These vans were built with soft springs so they ride nice: but once you add weight from towing or wheel chair ramps they sag.
The air shocks add up to 1,000 lbs of additional load capacity: allowing you to level out the vehicle when loaded.

These were the only front wheel drive cars in the late 60's.
These cars were heavy and hung over in the front and rear which requires
more stability and control from your shock absorbers.
