Rebuilding 1956 Mercedes Benz 190SL shocks and replacing lower bushings

Posted by Mark Lincenberg on 6/22/2017 to Shock Blogs

We undertook a challenge in rebuilding the front and rear tube shocks for a 1956 Mercedes Benz 190SL.

We were able to obtain the seals and completely disassemble cleaned and rebuilt all 4 shocks.

These have been hanging in the shop and show no signs of leakage.

1966, 67, 68, 69, 70 Cadillac Eldorado, Oldsmobile Toronado extra heavy duty front and rear shocks for better stability and control

Posted by Mark Lincenberg on 6/22/2017 to Shock Blogs

These were the only front wheel drive cars in the late 60's.

These cars were heavy and hung over in the front and rear.

For this reason alone you will want a bigger, beefier shock.

Our extra heavy duty shocks have approximately 50% more surface area to

spread the load across and twice the oil capacity for dissipating the heat faster.

Order gas charged for a crisper feel or hydraulic for the same strength overall but a softer feel.

In response to an inquiry on

http://www.fordmuscleforums.com/galaxie-pages/476841-air-shocks-my-63-a.html

which stated "
BUT just like the ones on ebay there upside down so soner or later there will be problems.
What I mean by this is the post is on top and the eye is on the bottom on the 64 if you look at the shock
it means that the cover which is open on the bottom is now a cup that will hold water and whatever goes into it"

Also they will not work properly because the the rebound and compression valving will be reversed.

We customize air shocks to fit and function properly on your car

with the eye on the top and stud on the bottom. Backed by our 5 year warranty.

We also offer spring assisted shocks in the same configuration

HONDA 600 - FRONT AND REAR SHOCKS

Posted by Mark Lincenberg on 3/23/2017 to Shock Blogs

The first true mini car brought in from Japan was the Honda 600: equipped with a 3 cylinder motorcycle engine.

These cars were tiny and the front shock are super short. Check out the work it took.

Nothing that is made will work and this is what we came up with: note how we reinforced

the body to accept the eye mounted on the side.

The rear shocks are coil over and they supply the entire suspension.

The shocks pictured are rated at approximately 850 lbs of boost per pair.

We reused the original lower U mount for exact fit.

Recently I came across a post on the Vintage Thunderbird club's site (http://www.vintagethunderbirdclub.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=3785) the post was inquiring about installing either air or spring assist shocks to help raise the rear end of his 1965 Thunderbird. We offer 4 options for accomplishing this: 3 involve load assisting shocks and the fourth is replacing the leaf springs with new for 64, 65, 66 Thunderbird, T-Birds.

What makes these shocks unique is the lower mounts, the shock stud on the bottom screws directly into a ball socket on the car. Just made a set for a customer. We offer these in hydraulic or gas charged in heavy duty, extra heavy duty, coil over and air shocks.

Hydraulic vs Gas Charged Shocks, which are better?

Posted by Administrator on 12/21/2013 to Shock Blogs

Hydraulic shocks provide a softer ride than gas charged.

These shocks were original equipment on most cars prior to 1980.

The ride feels softer because of slight lag of response in a hydraulic shock

compared to a gas charged shock which has an instantaneous response.

Why was I having trouble finding Front Shocks for my

1961 - 63 Buick Special, Buick Skylark,

or Oldsmobile Cutlass F-85

Because these front shocks have a unique mounting configuration

with a cross pin mount on top and bottom.

This configuration was unique to these cars.
